Meet the Team – Project Support Officer
This month, Samuel Thacker shares a typical working day at ITS.
How do you get the day started?
A shot of espresso usually does the trick. The first thing I do upon arrival is check the emails from my mail box and that of the PSO mail box, and then action them. Then, more than likely I will take a call from Caroline (my line manager) no doubt she will have some task for completion.
What is your role?
I am a project support officer at ITS Technology Group. I work with the rest of the PSO team, ensuring the operations side of the business runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
What does your role entail?
The role is part of the administration function in the operations part of the business. My main role at present is scheduling: this means I have to see what assets (engineers, hardware etc.) we have available and what is needed to install a customer or resolve an issue. Then I can arrange appointments for the engineers.
It is a role that at times can be rather busy: you have to take into account many factors and deductions, including making sure the main objectives are met, but most importantly ensuring the customer is happy. It can be very rewarding.
What do like best about your role?
I enjoy the range of different predicaments that may arise in a normal working day, the speed at which they can happen and working on them to reach an equilibrium, this certainly helps the day pass quicker.
Tell us something we would not know about you?
When I was part of the TA at University I was once pushed out of a plane 3,500 feet. I would not recommend it!
